The NPG welcomes the new Creative and
Media units.
Collaborating with LONSAS to provide two of the National Pilots,
our team has devised two diverse responses: a study day combining
visual art and media and a gallery workshop merging art and performing
arts.
All sessions are designed specifically to assist students/teachers
in order to launch and initiate class projects. See http://www.lonsas.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=839
Our learning programme holds potential provision for other units
from this new module including Artefact (Edexcel Unit 3) Industrial
Realisation (ORC Unit 3) & Discovery and Potential (AQA Unit
4 & 2).
Also suitable for other courses with a vocational approach including
Applied GCSE & A-Level and BTEC.

14 October - Study Day for students aged 16+
4 February - Study Day for students aged 14-16
11 February - Study Day for students aged 16+
The day begins at 1015 and ends at 1500.
To support the new Diplomas being
introduced in September 2008, The National Portrait Gallery is
offering a number of study days The dates will be suitable for
all those undertaking the above qualifications at Level 2.
The day will offer students the
chance to learn from industry experts about what it takes to
conduct a successful campaign, by focusing on how the National
Portrait Gallery promoted 'Face of Fashion', a
highly successful exhibition in 2007 from Feb -15th to May -
27th. Staff from the Gallery's Marketing, Exhibitions, Visitor
Services and Learning Departments will examine with students:
- The main messages or ideas behind
the campaign
- The target audience of the campaign
- The methods used to reach the
target audience
- The success of the campaign
in achieving its aims.
The campaign to promote for 'Face
of Fashion' employed printed publicity materials, new media,
press and PR, radio advertising and other marketing media, so
serves as an excellent case study for students.
The afternoon will require students
to think and work creatively in groups around the National Portrait
Gallery to generate ideas and draft materials for their own campaign
to promote a gallery. Groups will be given materials, assigned
roles and set a challenge in the style of the TV show 'The
Apprentice' They will finish the day by sharing their ideas
and receiving constructive feedback and advice from a member
of the Marketing team.
The day will serve as an excellent
introduction and overview to the Unit and will provide students
with inspiration and expertise to develop their own campaign,
record entries to their 'Process Portfolio' and stimulate ideas
for their 'Student Project'.
