BBC Great Britons 2003

Last year the BBC launched an unprecedented search for the greatest Briton of all time. Over 30,000 people nominated their chosen great Briton and the results have now been collated.
This autumn, Great Britons on BBC TWO has started the great debate with a series of ten one-hour long biographical programmes - one film dedicated to each of the top ten Great Britons as voted for by the British public.

A high-profile presenter including Jeremy Clarkson, Rosie Boycott, Andrew Marr, Alan Davies, Richard Holmes, Tristram Hunt, Lucy Moore, Mo Mowlam, Michael Portillo and Fiona Shaw, will front each programme, advocating passionately for their chosen Great Briton.

Throughout the series, the nation will have the opportunity to cast their vote, for their greatest Briton - by phone, on the BBC's website and by visiting the National Portrait Gallery. The series will culminate in a special results programme hosted by Anne Robinson, in which the presenters will come together in front of a live studio audience. As the presenters fight for their heroes, the poll will close, and the public's choice of the Greatest Briton of all time will be announced.
