Schweppes Photographic Portrait
Prize 2003
Including the Deloitte & Touche Award
'Photography can be witty, inspiring
and refreshing. Portrait photography has the ability to capture
something essential about a person - the real person behind the
face - something that is authentic and original. It is these
qualities that make Schweppes and photography the perfect partners.'
Martin Norris, Communications Director, Coca-Cola, UK
This year, the Schweppes Photographic
Portrait Prize continues the ten-year tradition of the John Kobal
Photographic Portrait Award, which firmly established itself
as the leading showcase for new talent from around the world
in photographic portraiture.
This new exhibition provides
an important platform for portrait photographers of all ages,
including students, talented amateurs and professionals. All
photographers are eligible for the main prize of £15,000,
while younger photographers, aged twenty-five
or under, can also compete for an additional £5,000 Deloitte
& Touche Award for the best portrait.
The accompanying catalogue offers
a unique opportunity to view
the portrait photographers of tomorrow and to bring their work
to a wider audience. Fully illustrated in colour throughout,
the book will feature all the selected entries from this year's
competition, including the two prizewinners.
Schweppes is a natural sponsor
of the Photographic Portrait Prize, given the company's support
of the photographic arts. The artist Alison Jackson shot the
Schweppes 'Sch ... you know who?' campaign, winner of twenty-nine
creative awards to date.
The judging panel includes
Alison Jackson, Sandy Nairne, Ekow Eshun, Amanda Hopkinson, Mary
McCartney Donald and Terence Pepper.
