Gerhard Richter is widely regarded as one of the world's leading contemporary artists: a complex figure known both for figurative work based on photographs as well as for abstract paintings. This landmark exhibition examines Richter's portraits and figures. Comprising key paintings from international public and private collections, the exhibition explores this important aspect of his work and illuminates the startling range of his imagery. Covering the period from the 1960s to the present, it includes early black and white paintings made from magazine photographs, portraits based on private snapshots, and a new work not previously exhibited. A special installation of 48 Portraits, Richter's celebrated series of historic figures, is a highlight of the
presentation. A fully illustrated book by curator Paul Moorhouse accompanies the exhibition. Special Gallery price £22.50 (RRP £40) hardback.
